JUDETH DAVIS
Sculpture
In 1998, after moving 24 times in 27 years, I "landed"
long enough to open "Hands On Studio" to provide
for my constantly evolving body of work. This original
studio space was in Morro Bay, on the Central Coast of
California. My studio consisted of three former beach
hotel bungalows and housed a close group of artists seeking
secluded work space away from the surrounding campuses
where we worked. While maintaining my own work, I taught
in the Children's Creative Workshop Project through the
State of California, teaching multiple grade levels throughout
the San Luis Obispo School District.
After studying sculpture in Lucca, Italy, I relocated
to the Los Angeles area and I hoped to find studio space
which provided this same atmosphere of artistic endeavor,
but without the burden of managing the space. When I found
the Fine Artists Factory, I found just what I needed.
I have been at the Fine Artists Factory since May 2004
and each month has marked a new passage of growth and
productivity. Mark Wood, the owner of FAF has cultivated
a unique place with constant stimulation and support for
artists.
My sculptures begin in clay and move into molds for bronze,
carved into stone or are fired to a finished ceramic piece.
The pieces range from portraitures or figurative to abstracts.
My pieces have shown at several galleries on the Central
Coast and three bronzes were featured at the El Pueblo
Art Gallery at Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles for
the collective show "Artists of L.A.".
With my new found studio space and settling into L.A.
as a permanent home, I look forward to new possibilities
for growth and development as an artist. I also welcome
comments and inquiries. You can contact me at judethdavis@aol.com.
